Seared Okra & Steak

Okra a beautiful plant that produces edible, star-like pods that help bring fiber, magnesium and vitamins to your diet. Some stray away from this vegetable because it produces a slime when cut. But that’s easily removed by high heat and creates a delish dish, like this one below!

Ingredients

Okra:

  • 1 cup of okra
  • 3 tbsp of avocado oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Steak:

  • 2 filet mignons
  • 2 tbsp Italian dressing

  • 1 tsp steak seasoning or pinch salt/pepper

Mushroom sauce:

  • 1/2 block cream cheese

  • 1 beef broth cube

  • 2 tsp avocado oil

  • 1 large portobello mushroom

  • 2 tbsp water

instructions

Okra:

  1. Place oil in skillet, turn to high heat
  2. Cut okra longways or slice into 1inch pieces
  3. Once oil is hot, add okra
  4. Cook for 1 minute, without stirring
  5. Stir in garlic, salt and pepper
  6. Cook for 1  – 2 minutes or until crisp
  7. Remove from heat and serve with steak

Steak:

  1. Marinate steak in Italian dressing and seasoning overnight or for 20 minutes
  2. Grill to your liking

Sauce:

  1. Cut mushrooms into thin slices and cut the cream cheese block into 2 inch squares
  2. Heat a skillet with high heat and add oil

  3. Once the oil is hot, add mushrooms

  4. Let cook for 3 minutes without stirring

  5. Stir in garlic and cook for 2 more minutes or until tender
  6. Place heat on low, add water to the skillet, cream cheese squares and crushed beef broth cube

  7. Stir slowly until thick

  8. Remove from heat and serve with steak and okra
  9. Enjoy!
