Caramelized Pear French Toast

Pears are easy to eat on the go and full of flavor, fiber and vitamin C! If you’re able to get them home from the farmers market without eating them, try caramelizing them in this recipe and impressing friends and family members.

Ingredients

French Toast:

  • 1 sourdough loaf
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Pear sauce:

  • 2 pears
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Pinch nutmeg, cinnamon and salt

Additional Options:

  • Walnuts
  • Blueberries
  • Powdered sugar
  • Peanut butter

instructions

French toast:

  1. Whisk together eggs, milk and vanilla in a large bowl.
  2. Slice bread into 2 inch slices.
  3. Dip slices into the egg mixture, covering all sides evenly.
  4. Heat a skillet with butter.
  5. Once hot, place the bread in the skillet and cook for 1 minute on each side or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from skillet and serve with pear sauce and toppings.

Pear sauce:

  1. Dice pears into small, bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a small pot, set heat to medium and brown butter for 30 seconds.
  3. Add in pears, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt and cook for 1 minute stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in maple syrup and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Top french toast with pear topping and add additional toppings if you wish.
  6. Enjoy!
