Produce Prescription

Food As Medicine

Produce Prescription is a collaborative effort between CFM, Boone County Children's Services, and Compass Health Network to foster a healthy community by prescribing fresh fruits and vegetables. Eligible patients at Compass Health Network can redeem their "prescriptions" at CFM, promoting wellness through increased access to nutritious food options.

Produce Prescription

Who?

  • Current, eligible patients at select Boone County Compass Health Network locations.

HOW?

  • Healthcare providers at Compass Health Network can prescribe a "dose" of in-season fresh fruits and vegetables to current patients who live in Boone County and have children 19 and younger living in their household.
  • Once per week, bring your prescription to Columbia Farmers Market and exchange it for tokens that can be spent on fruits and vegetables. You can shop at the Wednesday OR Saturday market.
  • Each family's prescription is based on the number of people living in the household and provides at least $20 per week to spend at the market.

Note: Starting January 2025, CFM has taken over all administration of the Produce Prescription program. A special thank you to our friends at CCUA, who helped to pilot the Produce Prescription program in 2021 and administered the program from 2021 to 2024.
