Evening on Kenny and Becky Duzan's pond.

Kenny Duzan has been selling at the Columbia Farmers Market for 12 years.  Kenny has three jobs but makes it to market every Saturday during spring, summer and fall with a trailer load of high quality produce.  He prides himself with producing  great spinach, sweet onions, broccoli, squash, egg plants, cucumbers in many shapes and kinds, squash, tomatoes – you name it.  Becky specializes in growing zinnias and other flowers.

Kenny and Becky are both great cooks and Kenny is always willing to pass on a recipe’ or two to anyone who asks “How do you cook turnips (or whatever).  Kenny is also willing to share his gardening knowledge with any gardener who needs some help.

The Salad Garden is a small certified organic farm located in Ashland, Missouri, 15 minutes south of Columbia. On our 1.5 acre plot(and growing), we grow a wide array of herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables, including many open-pollinated and heirloom varieties. We also raise heritage breeds of chickens, egg-laying ducks, and pastured pigs. The farm is run and managed by Dan Kuebler, Liberty Hunter, and Leslie Touzeau. Dan has been selling at the market since the 1980′s and, as of 2011, has partnered up with a couple greenhorns (Liberty and Leslie) who manage the daily work on the farm. Look for us year-round at the farmer’s market, at several local restaurants, or consider joining our 2012 CSA.

Products Offered: Cherries, apples, peaches, pears, pecans, blueberries

On our farm, we grow a variety of fruits and nuts. We have native pecans that have been growing here for many years. We started planting fruit trees in the mid-90’s for our own kitchen. We were soon getting offers from friends and family who wanted to buy fruit. We enjoyed growing the fruit, so each year expanded our orchard until now we have over 200 trees. We grow several varieties of sweet cherries, sour cherries, blueberries, persimmons, apricots, pears, plums, apples, several varieties of pecans, and 23 varieties of peaches. Our free range chickens help with pest control in the orchard and provide us with eggs and meat. We raise Dexter cattle for our own meat and have Nubian goats for milk.

Our goal is to provide fruit to our customers at the peak of ripeness. We pick our fruit the night before or the day of markets so that the fruit is perfectly ripe and has the most flavor.
